Uploading a Minecraft World This article will teach you how to upload a Minecraft world that you have already played to the Minecraft server of VisperHost.
What to Prepare
- Minecraft world file
- FTP programs such as FileZilla
Steps to upload a Minecraft world to a server
1. Always shut down your Minecraft server first.
2. Install the Minecraft version or Modpack that matches your world.
Before uploading a Minecraft world to the server, you need to verify and install the Minecraft version and Modpack that matches the one used to create that world. Uploading a world file created from a different Minecraft version or Modpack may cause loading issues, such as missing blocks or the world being unplayable. You can install versions or Modpacks from the Versions or Modpacks menu on the website.
3. Locate the Minecraft world file on your device.

- Open the Minecraft folder on your computer:
- Windows:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves - Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves - Linux:
~/.minecraft/saves - Or any other location where you have stored your world files.
- Windows:
- Select the Minecraft world folder you want to upload (the folder name will match the name of the world in the game).
4. Compress the Minecraft world file

- Right-click on the World folder you want to compress.
- Select “Compress Files” or the corresponding command (depending on the software you are using):
- WinRAR/7-Zip: Select “Add to Archive” or “Compress to .zip/.rar file”
- Windows/MacOS: Select “Compress” or “Create Zip File.”
- Name the compressed file, for example:
myworld.zip - After the compression is complete, you will have a world file in .zip or .rar format, ready to upload.
5. Connect to the server via SFTP or through the website.

- If you are uploading files via SFTP, we recommend using programs such as WinSCP or FileZilla to connect to your server.
- Host: Enter the FTP server information.
- Username and Password: Enter the information to log into the server.
- Port: Enter 22 or the specified port number.
- If you are uploading files via the website, you can access the “File Manager” menu and select “Upload.”
**How to upload files to the server via SFTP can be viewed at: https://www.visperhost.net/sftp-to-gpanel/
6. Upload the compressed Minecraft world file.
- On the server, locate the server world folder (usually named
"world"). - Delete or rename the old world folder to something else.
- Upload the
.zipfile of your Minecraft world that you have compressed to the server folder.
7. Extract the files on the server.
- After successfully uploading the
.zipfile, access the server control panel. - Press to enter the menu, select the File Manager, choose the uploaded file, and press “Unzip/Extract” in the control panel.
- Check that the file has been extracted into a folder on the server.
8. Rename the extracted world file to “world.”

- Select the extracted file and rename the folder to “world.”
9. Open the server.
- Open server
- Check if the Minecraft world you uploaded is already available on the server.
Important:
- Always back up your data: Whether it’s the old world or the new, to prevent data loss.
- Check compatibility: Verify that the server and Minecraft world versions are the same.
Follow these steps to easily and securely upload your Minecraft world to the server when you open Minecraft!
